Scuba Game

The Performance Scuba Game is designed to give the new fraud investigator practice finding the root cause of a performance issue on an online seller's account. Sticking with the underwater "deep dive" theme of the curriculum, the investigator plays the role of a scuba diver, exploring the "Performance Caves" for the information they need to identify the root cause of an issue flagged by the system. Not all caves are relevant to the root cause, so if the diver explores a cave they don't need to, they'll lose an oxygen point. This is a subtle feature of the game to help drive home the importance of speed/efficiency in an investigation.

Here's a demo of the game, followed by some screenshots.

Investigator “dives in” to begin playing. They can make their diver swim using their keyboards arrow keys and explore the environment for the information needed to assess the seller's account health. Bubble icons throughout are clickable and either show the player a screenshot of the seller account or play a short video recording of an actual account investigation.

Players are provided with feedback throughout based on the decisions they make at each step. For example, this screenshot shows the player swimming into an area of the caves (which represent areas of an account) that they don't need to see in order to find the answer. Upon entering this area, the player is pushed back by some sort of sea creature and one oxygen point is subtracted from their tank.

After exploring the caves and gathering the details needed to complete their investigation, the player can “take action” on the account. In this simulated practice environment, the player completes their investigation by answering some questions.

Right or wrong, the player is given immediate feedback on their answer choice.

Finally, players are presented with a results page that displays their answer scores and reminds them to consider the efficiency of their investigation (represented by their oxygen score). Because these are novice investigators learning a new skill, the oxygen score is not weighted against their official question score.
